The QuickBooks Certified User certification is an industry-recognized credential that effectively validates one’s skills in QuickBooks accounting software. QuickBooks Certified User exam vouchers will now include access to both the QuickBooks Desktop AND QuickBooks Online tests so candidates can demonstrate their skills in whatever version of QuickBooks they prefer. QuickBooks Certified User Online version

The QuickBooks Certified User Online exam will test candidates on new features found in the QuickBooks Online software. While many of the features are similar, QuickBooks Online is our cloud-based subscription service that provides the flexibility to take care of business anytime, anywhere. With Online version you are test on the new features including receipt capture from a mobile device, cloud-based app support, work from anywhere on any device, instant file access for accountants, schedule and send invoices automatically.

QuickBooks Certified User Desktop version

The QBCU certifies on basic accounting knowledge and utilities of the QuickBooks Desktop software that includes pre-built sample companies, multiple company files, annual updates, and data backed-up and restored. QuickBooks Desktop is a one-time download accounting software with industry-specific features and reporting.

Exam retirement

June 2017

Certiport retired all QuickBooks exams off of the Certiport Online Delivery System for Windows (LMS) on June 30, 2017. Moving to and learning the Console 8 system is required to continue to deliver the Intuit QuickBooks Certified User exams.

This retirement is included in the retirement of the Intuit Quickbooks Certified User 2013 exam.

October 2017

Certiport retired the QuickBooks Certified User 2014 exam on October 31, 2017.

Exam lengths

QuickbookQBCU (each exam is 50 minutes):

  • Intuit QuickBooks Desktop 2016 – 47 Questions
  • Intuit QuickBooks Desktop 2015 – 47 Questions
  • Intuit QuickBooks Desktop 2014 – 47 Questions
  • Intuit QuickBooks Online (U.S. Version) – 50 Questions
  • Intuit QuickBooks Online (Global Version) – 50 Questions
Retake policies
  • QuickbookIf a candidate does not achieve a passing score on any QuickBooks Certified User exam the first time, the candidate must wait one day (24 hours) before retaking the exam.
  • If a candidate does not achieve a passing score the second time, the candidate must wait five days (120 hours) before retaking the exam a third time.
  • A five-day waiting period will be imposed for each subsequent exam retake.
  • There is no annual limit on the number of attempts on the same exam.
  • If a candidate achieves a passing score on an QBCU exam, the candidate may take it again.
  • This policy applies to both voucher-based and site-license-based Certiport Centers.
  • All original vouchers must be used prior to their expiration dates, without exception.
  • Retake vouchers must be used within 30 days of the initial failed exam. If a retake was purchased, the retake voucher is sent by email after a failed exam.
  • Test results found to be in violation of this retake policy will result in the candidate not being awarded the attempted credential, regardless of score.
